Stabilizer Tower Corrosion Control

Corrosion is a known issue in stabilizer tower operations, specifically if there is chloride contamination. The chlorides can potentially combine with the ammonia in the system to form ammonium chloride salts resulting in under-deposit corrosion. Due to the relatively small amount of water in the system, corrosives may concentrate where there is aqueous condensation. Nalco Champion corrosion inhibitors and salt dispersants mitigate corrosion and increase reliability.

Corrosion in stabilizer systems may be due to inorganic salt formation, such as ammonium chloride salt deposition, or due to concentration of other corrosives. These corrosives either attack the process surface by under-deposit reactions, or where small amounts of water condensation may occur. Nalco Champion has developed film forming corrosion inhibitors and salt dispersant additives that control corrosion and improve process reliability in high pH and potentially salting environments.
